There’s a murder in the opening minutes and the rest of the film is an examination of why the young man might have committed this act.
It’s done through interviews with his psychiatrist, his mother, and most importantly, his wife. It’s a troubled marriage, and interestingly, the couple have the same names as the bickering couple in SCENES FROM A MARRIAGE. Is it the same couple?
This was another film Bergman made while living in exile in Germany over tax issues in Sweden. It’s a German language film with a German cast.
