On a random Valentine’s Day sometime back, I watched NEKROMANTIK for the 1st time in an “alternate love story” marathon along with BREAKING POINT: A PORNOGRAPHIC THRILLER and NAKED VENGEANCE. The joke was on me because NEKTROMANTIK is, icky bits aside, a tragic and engrossing love story.
So this Valentine’s Day I, along with my roommate, sat down with some pizza and watched the sequel. NEKROMANTIK 2 ups the ante on love-dovey dating/sexy times and necrophilia-based grossness while maintaing a strong vision, a so-dark-no-light-can-escape streak of humor and some really great music. It’s more experimental than the first (a movie-within-the-movie involving two naked people sitting outside eating eggs and talking about birds feels not at all out of place) and runs a little long. Still, it’s a movie far better movie than one would imagine, especially when frequently tarnished by a wholly inaccurate reputation based on ignorance.
