Anthony Michael Hall works at an outlandish art club where the likes of Shadoe Stevens perform poems and dance routines. Yearning to be an artist himself, Hall’s character accidentally kills a cat, wraps it in plaster and becomes the next big thing in the art world. The jokes mostly fall flat (mainly because the art world is such an easy target that they are mostly jokes that are too obvious to be made) but enough hit that this becomes a pretty entertaining movie.
The best part of THE DEATH ARTIST (also known as A BUCKET OF BLOOD and DARK SECRETS) is that there are tons of people that were popular either before or after 1995. There doesn’t seem to be anyone here that was at the height of his/her popularity IN 1995. Familiar faces include David Cross, Will Ferrell, Jennifer Coolidge and Mink Stole.
