Overview
A newly-married woman and former prostitute whose husband, a ship’s captain, has gone to sea, is pressured into returning to her old profession. When she refuses, she is violently gang-raped and left pregnant and despondent. She kills herself while attempting to abort the fetus but returns as a vengeful Sundel Bolong, a ghost with a putrid, rotting hole in her back. When the rapists and conspirers start turning up dead, her husband and the police try to put a stop to the violence, once and for all.

Viewing Notes
Film culte de toute l’Indonésie pour des générations de spectateurs. De mon côté, je ne l’ai trouvé ni effrayant ni drôle mais du côté de la romance et du mélodrame, je trouve que ça fonctionne ! Evidemment les effets spéciaux datés prêtent à sourire, cependant le charme de Suzzanna et son jeu remportent l’affaire. C’est aussi un film de rape and revenge intéréssant car matiné de fantastique et de surnaturel ; par moments le film me rappellais même un autre film culte qui, bien que différent, est aussi une histoire de fantômes avec des accents comiques, romantiques, et mélodramatiques : Ghost . Cette dernière remarque, bien sûr, n’engage que moi !
