Overview

A woman seemingly dies of fright after participating in a séance where she sees a vision of a Dunwich priest hanging himself in a church cemetery. New York City reporter Peter Bell investigates and learns that the priest’s suicide has somehow opened a portal to Hell and must be sealed by All Saints Day, or else the dead will overtake humanity.

Viewing Notes

Gates of Hell continues the Lucio Fulci insanity he’s known for. A priest hangs himself , for whatever reason we’ve never told, and with that unleashes a gateay to hell which causes the dead to rise up and attack the living.

Meanwhile an investigator makes a half-assed attempt at trying to figure out the recent deaths and ends up working with a young, psychic woman.

Really, though, plot of the movie is a non-issue. The best parts of the movie for me was Christopher George’s totally apathatic investigator role. As Zack Carlson said in his intro “he doesn’t seem to give ass about butt” which made the viewing so much more apparent, and also so much more funny.

Other huge standouts in the film for me is the big kills it’s known for: the drill through the head, the woman puking her intestines and brains out through her mouth and the swarm of maggots that come in the through the window.

All in all I loved it, but have to say I like The Beyond better.
