When 9 first comes to life, he finds himself in a post-apocalyptic world. All humans are gone, and it is only by chance that he discovers a small community of others like him taking refuge from fearsome machines that roam the earth intent on their extinction. Despite being the neophyte of the group, 9 convinces the others that hiding will do them no good.

Shane Acker’s 9 was a short first and I guess he got money from Tim Burton and made it into a full length animated feature.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to work well as a full length. It tends to leave a lot of story out and gives more questions than answers. However, what it lacks in story it makes up for in character and world design. 9 is a treat to watch. It has that new hot steampunk thing down, with robots made out of found items battle these crazy sock puppet characters.
I’d never watch this again, but I’m glad I checked it out. However, 9 is easily the weakest of 2009’s animated releases.
