The Man From Earth is a talking movie. There’s no action whatsoever. Very little comedy, even. Normally I find movies like that to be a little on the tedious side. However, this movie really had my attention from start to finish. For a lot of reasons too…let’s start off with the cast. We have Terry Todd, John Billingsley and William “Greatest American Hero” Katt. All character actors I like quite a bit. Secondly, the plot is really something I dig. The main guy, John (David Lee Smith) gathers his fellow professors together right before he leaves town and confesses to them he’s actually a caveman. One who has lived for 14000 years on this earth. Of course they laugh at his “joke” but as they continue to question him, using logic and their specific realms of study, they become ever more convinced that maybe he’s not just making up an elaborate story. They even mix in religion, an upsetting topic for some people.
What really makes this talking movie something worthy of watching and not just a snorefest, is that not only are all the characters believable but also the dialog is very well written. I was sucked in and bought it all.
I was a little confused by the ending, but really loved The Man From Earth.
