Viewing Notes

7 Days is a French-Canadian revenge thriller where a father has his daughter raped and murdered and ends up kidnapping the killer and torturing him for 7 Days before he plans on killing him. The policeman trying to hunt him down and stop him is dealing with the murder of his wife at the same time.
What makes this movie so intense is that it’s completely open and unflinching about showing the violence and aftermath of this violence. It’s not for the faint of heart.

All around it’s an amazing film and the performances are absolutely believable and had me cringing repeatedly. It’s disturbing and shocking, which it is supposed to be. I have to say, though, compared to The Horseman, another revenge flick I preferred that to 7 Days. The main reason being is I felt that the character in Horseman had more depth than the guy in 7 Days. It was played ever so more subtlety and didn’t have an extra storyline of the cop, which while it was good, was unneccessary IMHO. I preferred that more narrow focus, where 7 Days had two stories going at once.

Still, in the end 7 Days is easily recommendable if you’re into this sort of thing and can handle the graphic violence.
