There was a lot of hype for this film and I was never impressed by the trailers. Friends have raved about it to me enough that I took to mocking it even before seeing it.
Well I saw it and it turns out my mocking was right. This movie is silly.
I’ll be honest, I can’t get past that terrible animation style. Especially for someone like Wes Anderson who has the money and class to make this much better. I don’t fault the guys who made Town Called Panic for their low-budget, but because that was played so insane it helped make it better. With Fox I just thought “this looks terrible”. It made it hard to identify or even care about the characters because I kept thinking how poorly it was done.
And then the story? Really? It’s a fox who steals some shit, the three guys get made and tear down his hole and then they steal more stuff. The end. This is a movie to get excited about? And how come the fox, who is killing chickens is friends with a rabbit? And how come the dogs and chickens are normal, non-talking animals when the fox is going around driving motorcycles? It’s all quite nonsensical. I’d forgive that stuff if the plot was halfways interesting but it’s not.
I love Wes Anderson but this was completely, if not below, mediocre. I look forward to his next live action film but I can do without another shitty animated one.
