5ive Girls came off way better than I expected from a horror movie I stumbled onto on Netflix Watch Instantly. For one, Ron Perlman plays a priest. That’s crazy enough. Then you have a girl, a devoted Catholic girl, who is doing some Latin homework in school when she gets attacked by a demon. In the line of all lines she screams to him “As God as my witness, you shall not enter me!”. Come on, that’s great stuff!
Time later Perlman and his cohort, the headmistress who looks no older than the schoolgirls, gets 5 special girls together in the school. They’re all supposed to be “bad” but it turns out they’re all into Wicca, have telepathy or healing powers or some such thing.
It all played out well. I always dig the hot Catholic girl thing and I thought the momentum of the movie was great, the girls had some great lines, the FX were great and despite the cheese it was just a really fun movie. I pictured it like how I love 70s style Satanic cult flicks that 15 or 20 years from now this would be one of those I’d really like.
