I really love good graffiti. When someone can throw up an amazing piece, it’s something to be admired. It can’t be easy translating work using spray paint. And coming from El Paso, there’s a lot of talented graffiti artists there and my friend and I actually even took a bunch of pictures that are still available on Art Crimes. http://www.graffiti.org/elpaso/elpaso_1.html
So watching this documentary it was nice to get an inside view of some of the more famous people around. What I didn’t care for and no matter how many ways its argued is that tagging is an art. It’s not. It’s vandalism and looks terrible. Sure, I can see how people think “those are amazing lines” in a name, but really it adds nothing to the street but making it look run down and tacky.
Still, all in all the documentary is well done, even handed and shows some amazing work.
