Viewing Notes

While Breaking Point does feature quite a bit of hardcore sex shots in it, it’s much more than that. It’s somewhere between a thriller and maybe something influenced by Clockwork Orange.

I don’t even know what I thought of it. The sex stuff while very graphic wasn’t necessarily shocking until the car scene.

My take on the film is that we’re seeing it from the viewpoint of Bob, the main guy. He’s somewhat snapped, whether its from his job, life or from events related to the end. The news reports we hear are so completely outrageous I get the idea that it’s what HE hears. Why else would we get that whole speech near the beginning, on the radio, about schizophrenia. I have doubts that the women he does sleep with are as subservient as we see, but that’s just what he thinks he sees. And at times this view into his world breaks down, like in the car chase or near the end when we see him dealing with it, sweating and tossing and turning in bed. We don’t know what became of some of those women but I think maybe they’re not going back to their regular lives. IE, he keeps the gear shift as a trophy and off the bat the woman is killed. Oh and the scene with the little girl? I think that ends up being explained by the ending, IMHO.

So while the porn side of it is likely from it being Swedish, who are far less prudish than Americans, the thriller isn’t far removed from something like Impulse.

Absolutely not a movie I’d recommend to people but also one that’s pretty goddamn out there.
