Viewing Notes

Juan Piquer Simon passed away this year and since he’s made two amazing horror films that I truely love I wanted to check out some of his other films. Mystery on Monster Island bills itself to star both Terrence Stamp and Peter Cushing, but they both only really appear briefly on screen. Instead we have a Scooby Doo like mystery where two guys end up trapped on an island after their boat is attacked by guys in rubber monster suits. Once on the island they find it’s also filled with rubber suited monsters and also a group of cutthroats who are after them, especially after they discover the island holds a very pricey secret.

All in all the comedy is over the top and goofy but it all sort of works. I had a good time with it and it’s one of those family friendly sort of gems you stumble on once in a while. And boy, what a change from PIECES and SLUGS!
