Viewing Notes

Note that I use a 4-point scale.

Whether you’re a gamer or not, Indie Game: The Movie is a must-see documentary. It gives an incredibly emotional look at what it is to be an independent game developer in the download-era of gaming. The filmmakers closely follow the creators of Super Meat Boy, Fez, and Braid as they fight to meet deadlines, deal with critics, and genuinely strive to survive as indie game developers. There are points in this documentary where I wanted to cry, and other points where I wanted to stand up and cheer. Aside from the content, which is the king of this movie, the shooting style that the director’s use is excellent, filled with shots on rails, and interplacing titles in the most organic places. It’s a genuinely incredible documentary that I’m still effected by 24-hours later.
