Wow. What a difference a decade makes. TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE is a grimy, brutal and horrifying film. A horror classic. However, 13 years later, Tobe Hooper is back in the director’s chair with Dennis Hopper starring for the sequel. This time around Hooper decided to camp it up.
More gore, crazier characters, 80’s excess. This is a totally different animal than the low budget original. On it’s own terms, it kinda works. As a sequel, though, it’s a failure. It discounts everything that I loved about the original film. So, I’m torn a little bit.
The wild card here is Dennis Hopper. He’s bat-shit crazy, but spends a large amount of time screaming and running with chainsaws. Speaking of screaming, the main girl basically just screams for the last half hour. Ugh. I wanted her to die ASAP.
Actually, the more I think of it…fuck this movie. And don’t get me started on the end shot. Chainsaw interpretive dance?!
