Viewing Notes

STAKE LAND starts out well, stumbles along the way, but is still a solid entry into the genre.

I loved the atmosphere and the post-apocalyptic feel of the film. All the characters are somewhat interesting. The action beats are pretty well staged and brutal.

My main gripes, though, are this:

1) Are these zombies or vampires? Why did they squeal like pigs?

2) Ultimately, what was the point of this movie? There’s a lot of great set up and characters but no where to go. I wasn’t fully satisfied by the end of the film.

As a sophomore effort for director Jim Mickle (Mulberry Street), STAKE LAND is a solid effort, it just doesn’t stick the landing.
