This time around Edmund and Lucy Pevensie, along with their pesky cousin Eustace Scrubb find themselves swallowed into a painting and on to a fantastic Narnian ship headed for the very edges of the world.

My favorite books as a child were C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles Of Narnia series. They captivated me as a child and in have many fond memories of my parents reading these books to me.
My relationship with the films is a different story. THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE was a worthy, though flawed attempt at bringing this classic world to the screen. While they got a lot right, I feel that the main characters were horribly miscast and the script seemed disjointed.
PRINCE CASPIAN had similar criticisms from me. The main characters kept me from fully loving the film, though there was a lot of spectacle to be enjoyed.
With VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER, I feel that a sense of adventure has been restored. The lead characters are Lucy and Edmund for this outing, along with their cousin Eustice. I never much of a problem with the Lucy and Edmund characters, so that gripe wasn’t as prevalent in this film.
The story is more engaging than PRINCE CASPIAN, a bit more of a high seas adventure. The effects, with the exception of Aslan near the end, are pretty great.
I can’t seem to put my finger on it, but something has kept the NARNIA series from greatness. It seems that with the success of THE LORD OF THE RINGS films, the NARNIA films were rushed into production. While a lot of care has been put into the look of the world, not enough time has been put in crafting a quality adaptation.
VOYAGE OF THE DAWN TREADER is a fine film. An enjoyable family adventure. I just wish this series was great instead of just OK.
