Say what you will about James Wan (Saw, Dead Silence), the guy is bringing original horror stories to the screen. In a world of remakes, his movies spark some originality.
While not wholly original, Insidious is at least a clever spin on the “haunted house” flick. It’s also an extremely effective and scary PG-13 horror movie. Until now (with the exception of The Ring) I thought PG-13 horror flicks could never be scary. James Wan has proved me wrong. Insidious is creepy as hell and had me gasping more than once.
The creep factor fizzles toward the end of the film, but Insidious is a solid and satisfying little film.
