Viewing Notes

I feel like this is the type of film that SEASON OF THE WITCH wished it could be.

This is a medieval “man-on-a-mission” flick that that is insanely well done. A handful of men must travel to a village that is accused of harboring a witch. Choosing a young monk to help guide them, all hell breaks loose.

Sean Bean is perfect as a Christian Knight and the rest of the cast is memorable and badass.

Narrative problems arise in the second half, but not enough to derail the film. Overall, BLACK DEATH is atmospheric, thought provoking and ambiguous. Christopher Smith is a director worth keeping tabs on.
