Watching LIFEFORCE is a frustrating 2 hours. Based off a novel “The Space Vampires” it poses some interesting questions. What if we found lifeforms in space? What if they needed us to live?
LIFEFORCE is known for 2 things: Tobe Hooper’s follow up to POLTERGEIST and newcomer Mathilda May’s breasts. Everything else seems to be forgotten when talking to fans of this flick.
I originally thought LIFEFORCE was a simple plot of astronauts trapped in a spaceship with a space vampire much like QUEEN OF BLOOD. That’s not the case. It plays out like a combination on QUEEN OF BLOOD and THE CRAZIES. LIFEFORCE is a crazily ambitious film.
Not as campy as I hoped and it drags once “naked vampire” disappears. However the over-ambitious nature of the last 30 minutes is pretty mind-blowing in a “what the fuck?!“sort of way and worth checking out.
