Viewing Notes

Ji-woon Kim‘s (The Good, the Bad, the Weird) film A Tale of Two Sisters has been a movie that I’ve meant to see this for a long time.  I had heard how scary it was and that the story was pretty brilliant, ect.  So, I was really looking forward to this.  Even with a couple extremely creepy scenes and although it succeeded at getting a genuine jump out of me, I was severely disappointed withA Tale of Two Sisters.

Ultimately, the film fails at cohesiveness and tension.  As a horror movie, it fails because there doesn’t seem to be any immediate threat to the characters.  All creepiness is characters thinking they’re seeing something.  And that’s just not scary.  Also, the story jumps around so much, it just doesn’t flow naturally.  I was majorly let down by A Tale of Two Sisters, it had a lot of potential under more capable editing and storytelling.  I know there’s a remake, but from what I hear, it doesn’t fix any of these problems either.
