Finally, after numerous Saw sequels and a bunch of bleak and unfun horror movies, Adam Green decided to take the Slasher flick back to it’s 80s roots (kinda). I do take issue with Hatchet’s claims of being “Old School American Horror” but that’s the only main gripe I have. Hatchet is a fun slasher flick that doesn’t take itself seriously, has a badass killer, and tons of great gore & kills. In no way is Hatchet scary or even tense. Therefore, I can’t call it “Old School American Horror.” It’s more like an homage to those movies and can be very much treated as a comedy.
That said, I love this flick. It’s a fun way to keep the Halloween spirit alive each year and I’ll be re-watching this once a year.
