Viewing Notes

Forbidden World is Roger Corman’s blatant rip-off of Alien.  Basically, it’s Alien with a lower budget, random sex, random nudity, crazy gore effects, and horrible dialog.  All of Roger Corman’s usual tricks slapped onto a generic plot, but still very enjoyable.

There’s no jaw dropping audacity here like the 2 previous Roger Corman flicks I recently viewed (no monster rape here), but the lengths the film makers go to throw nudity on screen is pretty ridiculous.  This is exploitation for exploitation’s sake.  No plot development here, just Corman trying to appeal to his target audience.  The last third of the movie features our heroine’s wearing nothing but robes after they had showered together (WTF?).  Why you would want to take a shower while a killer alien being is stalking you is beyond me.  But it made sense to Roger Corman!

Forbidden World is so-bad-it’s-good at it finest.  Like the previous movies, the gore effects are pretty incredible for the low budget they had.  Also, there’s another epic behind-the-scenes documentary that’s really eye opening.  Also, the original director’s cut entitled Mutant is available in this set.  Roger Corman made the director edit out ALL the campy humor for the final release.  The Director’s Cut is standard definition and in full frame.  I haven’t checked that out yet, but as it stands Forbidden World is pretty hilarious for all the wrong reasons.
