Viewing Notes

I make no secret that I’m a Joss Whedon fan, so of course I was excited to see CABIN IN THE WOODS. And, after over a year’s worth of stellar reports, I’m happy to report that it was even better than I expected.

I went in knowing little about the plot, other than what was shown in the trailer. I avoided all reviews, other than the casual mentions on Twitter. And it blew me away.

When Whedon and Goddard said that it was a love letter to horror films, they weren’t joking. It turns the genre’s conceits on its head and plays them to great effect, building from conventional flick to all-out assault; there was actually one point in the film when I yelled out in victory before I could stop myself

I wish the film hadn’t been delayed so long, and I wish people were smart enough to at least understand this film (if not love it like me), but it was and America is dumb, so it will probably be considered a failure by everyone except those who made it and your smarter-than-average bears.
