Overview

As a CIA officer, Evelyn Salt swore an oath to duty, honor and country. Her loyalty will be tested when a defector accuses her of being a Russian spy. Salt goes on the run, using all her skills and years of experience as a covert operative to elude capture. Viewing Notes

If Tom Cruise had ended up starring in SALT as originally intended, I think it would’ve been Tom Cruise Action Movie #56 and it wouldn’t have more or less of an impression than the previous fifty-five. But Angelina Jolie makes the film stand out in taking a role that’s usually slotted for a man.

Jolie’s appeal and plot twists make up for some of the film’s plot holes, such as a KGB informant being able to get a shoe knife into a federal agency building. It’s probably a shame to say, but in my post-MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE IV world, everything else pales, so SALT only comes off as okay in that area.

All around, SALT is a decent little actioner with some nice plot twists. I’d be up for the sequel, N’ PEPA.
