FOOLS RUSH IN starts off like it wants to be quirky, what with Matthew Perry carrying around a swordfish at a Christmas party. But it quickly devolves into standard 1990s romantic comedy fare.
That’s not to say it’s bad, because it’s not; it just is what it is: an average afternoon watch where everything turns out as expected. There’s an admirable turn with the baby at the center of the plot, but that’s one of the few things that really stands out. The movie also wastes a villain with Hayek’s ex, but he fades into the background as quickly as he arrives.
FOOLS RUSH IN sounds like an apt description for the script writers; they should’ve slowed down and reassessed their script a few times.
