Viewing Notes

I picked this movie for one reason: Justin Timberlake is funny on SNL and Mila Kunis exists…and I’d heard that it was actually an alright viewing. I’m here to tell you that it’s worth a watch.

The movie is funny and Kunis and Timberlake actually have some chemistry on screen…which apparently is true off screen too, since a hacker who cracked Kunis’ phone said that he has pictures of Timberlake’s peen from when they were filming FRIENDS; I hear it wears a tiny Michael Jackson fedora. But I digress…

FRIENDS WITH BENEFITS is funny and a smidge raunchy for an expected typical romantic comedy, but it’s also surprisingly touching, taking a turn for the mature with a story about an aging parent, dysfunctional families and feeling alone because of it. It really turns what could’ve been a really immature story into a lightly poignant piece. The film’s let-down is that it’s a bit too “in the now” like YOU’VE GOT MAIL with technology and brand prominence, as well as flash-mobs; that quickly dates it and keeps it from feeling timeless.
