Nick is a successful young man whose comfortable West Coast life couldn’t be better. However, when his girlfriend falls under the influence of lecherous music producer Lenny Swackhammer, Nick impulsively decides to travel to Toronto to intervene. Nick’s buddies Tyler and Dime opt to turn the quest into a cross-country road trip that’s complete with wacky antics and encounters with beautiful women.

Mix AMERICAN PIE and ROAD TRIP and what do you get? GOING THE DISTANCE, a considerably less funny movie that reeks of near-plagiarism.
Let’s examine the potential plagiarism: there’s a road trip filled to secure a long distance relationship between a schlub and a hot girl that’s filled with hijinx and obstacles. There’s the wacky sidekick. And there’s the most obnoxious part of the movie: the character Tyler, the resident over-sexed, horndog character that Seann William Scott plays in every movie. The film even goes so far to clone Scott’s scenes that in this one, much like ROAD TRIP, a woman anally violates him. The only difference with this film is that the schlub ends up going for another hot girl instead of the original intended. I know, I know, SPOILER ALERT.
Everything GOING THE DISTANCE tries to do, ROAD TRIP does 10 times better. It’s amusing but not hilarious, and frequently boring.
