Growing up, the EMANUELLE series was only about one thing: BEAVIS & BUTTHEAD laughs and boobs. I’m not sure much has changed other than I’m more interested in the story, but I found myself bored and my mind wandering.
EMANUEL ESCAPES FROM HELL makes a nice attempt, but it didn’t feel like it went far enough for a prison/pseudo-revenge film. There’s one standout kill involving a razor blade, but the rest plays flat. Mattei and Fragrasso really missed an opportunity for the female warden to get revenge on her captors and evoke some sympathy with her prisoners; it would’ve been a nice turn for a film that otherwise played out some very staid concepts and felt very disconnected from its own material.
