SOCIETY is the perfect movie in this era of the Occupy Wall Street movement. It’s a little wacky and a little cheesy, but its message isn’t one that’s often seen from Hollywood.
When the opening credits rolled and said something like, “realistic effects by [insert name of effects guy],” a question mark formed over my head. And for the first 80 minutes I still didn’t understand the credit requirement. And then the last 15 minutes blew my mind.
The special effects aren’t so realistic and dramatic as to turn your stomach, but they do have a heavy visual impact. They’re dramatic and convey what the director was trying to get across: the wealthy sucking on the life of the poor.
The last fifteen turned what could’ve been a lackluster effort into something quite special and memorable. This is one I’d vote to see remade just to capitalize on Occupy.
