LAW ABIDING CITIZEN is one of those movies that should’ve worked, but it doesn’t. It really doesn’t.
The first problem is Jaime Foxx. I don’t care that the man won Oscars and other awards and blah blah blah; he’s a horrible, mumble-mouthed actor. The second problem is Jaime Foxx. The third problem is that Jaime Foxx’s character is a DISTRICT ATTORNEY, not a cop. The cops in this movie do absolutely no detectivating. No, that’s left up to the district attorney and his underlings to do. They put all the pieces together as slowly as possible with the assistance of a deus ex machina CIA agent so that the maximum body count can be inflicted.
SPOILER ALERT, mothafuckahs: Mr. District Attorney then figures it all out himself and then takes out the anti-hero with no reprecussions. Seeing as the cops don’t actually do any work in this movie, Foxx is able to kill a man with a GIANT FUCKING EXPLOSION and no one knows or cares except Chief O’Brien.
In all, this movie takes what should’ve been a wonderful revenge film and turns it into watered-down, illogical Hollywood, Michael Bay-proud schlock.
