Viewing Notes

I’d never seen Rat Pack movie before and, as I had several in my Netflix queue and unsure of where to start, an expiration date made my choice of 4 FOR TEXAS. I was pleasantly surprised.

When it comes to movies of the era, if it stars muscians I expect it to be cheesy; see just about any Elvis movie for proof. Therefore, I was half surprised to enjoy it was much as I did. Though again, I half wasn’t, because I’ve seen Sinatra and Martin’s live performances and I know how magnetic they were. The two positively shine on screen and you can’t help but smile, especially in the opening act when they’re squaring off against each other for the first time.

Like Marvel vs DC crossovers you know the two heroes are going to fight, but ultimately join forces. Where the movie fails a bit, is in having Sinata and Martin join forces against their comon enemies; it doesn’t happen until the last five minutes. It would’ve been great to see the two have more time to revel in their uneasy alliance.
