Overview

The Double Deuce is the meanest, loudest and rowdiest bar south of the Mason-Dixon Line, and Dalton has been hired to clean it up. He might not look like much, but the Ph.D.-educated bouncer proves he’s more than capable – busting the heads of troublemakers and turning the roadhouse into a jumping hot spot. But Dalton’s romance with the gorgeous Dr. Clay puts him on the bad side of cutthroat local big shot Brad Wesley.

Viewing Notes

For years, it’s been a running bit at the Inwood Theater in Dallas for me and a friend to yell “Road House!” whenever the theater manager asks about requests for midnight movies which they always ignore. In reality, I hadn’t seen the film since I was probably eleven or twelve when it would air on USA Network; I just remembered it as a kick-ass, if cheesy, movie. Cut to twenty-plus years later and it’s more awesome than I even remembered.

It’s hard to describe how very Crazy Swayze it is, but it’s like the best genes from every Eighties action movie were swirled into a cinematic uterus and out came a face-kicking, jumping baby ROAD HOUSE. It’s schmaltzy and mullety and punchy and homoerotic and laughably romantic, while issuing cheesy one-liners left and right. Also, there’s Sam Elliot and his pubic hair for that silver fox cherry on top. Taken in a glancing punch it sounds horrible, but for whatever ephemeral reason ROAD HOUSE is pure, unadulterated gold.

Favorite line: “Pain don’t hurt”
