Viewing Notes

Not growing up with horror films, I’m not familiar with much of the older material, but one name I’d heard of many times in the last decade was Lucio Fulci, so I was excited to see my first one on a big screen.

Though not as bloody as I expected, it was great to see a classic like this. The special effects of the time were limited, of course, but Fulci had some great ideas and beats, like the zombie versus shark battle and resurrecting long-dead corpses and not just the recently dead; you don’t see that idea played in many modern films. I appreciate how creative he was; so many today just seem paint-by-bodies.
