Viewing Notes

All I’ve ever known about BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY’s was the Deep Blue song and society’s love for it, so I didn’t really know what to expect except that it wouldn’t live up to the hype. But now I get it.

Where I expected a probably-decent, but cheesy 60s romantic comedy, what I got instead was a funny, but dark movie taking some nice, well-thought turns. And while I appreciate the broad strokes, what I really liked was the small directing details, like the guy sucking his thumb at the party, or the lady with the mirror.

All of those compliments aside, I wish Mickey Rooney’s pandering role had been tossed; it wasn’t funny now and I can’t imagine it was in 1961 either.
