I held off watching this for about 14 years now because I never thought it necessary to watch a shot-for-shot remake of a film that is damn near perfect. With the new contemporary Psycho prequel TV show starting, Bates Motel, I figured I’d finally give it a watch.
Overall it’s better than I expected but still completely unnecessary. Some of the same things that worked in the original just don’t make sense in a more modern time. People acted differently in the 60s than the 90s. Marion would not have made it off that car lot without a little more questioning by the cop.
Vaughn did a surprisingly good job as Norman, but played his parlor scene a little too crazy. Not near the haunting, sympathetic performance Perkins delivered.
