Viewing Notes

If I could give this movie a 6 out of 5, I would.

What an amazing first experience for me and this silent classic. I don’t think I could’ve asked for a better way to watch this movie. I’m not sure how people even understood many things after seeing what was recently added back in, and there’s still so much missing.

There are many times in this movie where I thought, “I’d love to have a high quality print of this screenshot framed on my wall.” The sets are breathtaking and the shot composition just blows my mind. I cannot believe this film was made in the late 20s.

And the live score… wow. BL Lacerta is a local Dallas area improvisational music group. There were a few missteps but overall it blew my mind - the last act especially.

I’m super excited that soon the Drafthouse will be doing more films with live scores. Take my money now, guys.
