Overview

Private eye Jake Gittes lives off of the murky moral climate of sunbaked, pre-World War II Southern California. Hired by a beautiful socialite to investigate her husband’s extra-marital affair, Gittes is swept into a maelstrom of double dealings and deadly deceits, uncovering a web of personal and political scandals that come crashing together.

Somehow I managed to go this long without seeing Polanski’s classic film starring Jack Nicholson. In fact, I knew very little about it before watching. It was showing at The Paramount in Austin and one of my co-workers wanted to check it out. So glad I went.

The film is spectacular. Great camerawork, great writing, and even better acting. Nicholson was just so goddamn cool back in the day. He may have turned weird in the past few years, but this…

I felt like I was watching Jean Paul Belmondo in BREATHLESS when Nicholson and Dunaway were lying in bed after sex.
