Viewing Notes

Great movie, great crowd, great trip.

This was Lars Nilsen’s, longtime Weird Wednesday programmer, last show at the Drafthouse. He left his position with Alamo a while back for the Austin Film Society, but remained on programming the long running WW series. Now he’s on to bigger and better things.

The night started off with some funny, touching words from Tim League, then Lars took the stage to bring the laughs. All of this after the Lars heavy pre-show and “in memoriam” set to Boyz II Men’s “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday.” Fantastic.

The movie - a pure spectacle of awesome. Heavy on the John Phillip Sousa and snakes, this movie begs to be seen by everyone in the world. Creepy at times, funny others, and interesting the whole way through.

As soon as the film ended a small marching band entered the theatre and led us all down a few blocks in the Austin 6th Street area to a bar for the post-film celebration. We only stayed a few minutes because of the 3+ hour drive back to Dallas, but it was fun.

Thanks for all the great films and work over the years Lars.
