Overview

Complications arise from an unorthodox arrangement between a peasant couple and a Jewish man in Nazi Germany. It’s 1942 and Albert, a Jew attempting to flee Germany, is given refuge by Fritz and his wife Emma on their remote farm in the Black Forest. In exchange for hiding Albert, Fritz makes an unusual request: he asks Albert to sleep with Emma to conceive an heir for the childless couple. Both Albert and Emma initially refuse, but feeling they have no choice, they eventually consent. A bond begins to form between the pair, leading to dramatic consequences. An emotionally nuanced story filled with excellent performances.
