Discovery Atlas: Japan Revealed (2008)

Directed by Jon Stephens

Overview

Which is the real Japan? Is it the Japan of bullet trains, neon lights, mobile phones and robots? Or is it the Japan of ancient temples, ladies in kimono, cherry blossoms and tea ceremonies? It is all these things and more.  Japanese culture embraces the old and new and emphasizes the importance of nature and the seasons. Among other characters, viewers meet an apprentice geisha, a tuna fisherman, a tattoo artist, school girls and a robot-designing family. In their own unique ways, these unique individuals demonstrate how the Japanese are masters of the future and guardians of the past.
