Viewing Notes

This is a great film. I switched it on, not intending to watch the entire thing, but wound up sitting through the whole three hours.

There are mixed reactions to this film, which I can understand. The first two hours is a riveting war film and when the battle is over, it seems like the film should end there. But then it goes on for another slowly paced hour, taken over by voiceover ruminations on life and death. It can definitely get you restless, but if you can hang in there and go with it, I think it’s tremendously rewarding.

The film is visually stunning.  The cast is absolutely amazing. I imagine all these stars were eager to work with Malick.
