An all-time classic and pretty much the blueprint for all heist films that followed. The 30-minute heist sequence with no dialogue and no music literally takes up 1/4 of the film.
Francois Truffaut said of RIFIFI, “From one of the worst crime novels I’ve ever read to one of the best crime movies I’ve ever seen.” Jules Dassin also hated the novel on which the film is based and only agreed to direct the film if he could rework the story.
Aside from the heist sequence, the ending is also fantastic.
