My second and last film for Day 3 of Noir City Chicago 6. One that’s been on my list of shame for a while or at least a big blindspot. Was really excited when Rififi was announced for Noir City on day I knew I could attend. Really great to see on the big screen in 35mm.
Easy to see why this film is so heralded; the entire heist sequence with virtually no sound or dialogue is outstanding. I like how we become so invested in these characters despite the fact they are criminals. I was wondering how it would play out because the crooks never win, right. Of course by the end crime doesn’t pay. I love that story takes a different approach rather than the crack police unit or detectives resolving the case.
Damn fine film and really glad to experience it this way.
