In a time when every shitty effects film is night 3 hours, it’s refreshing to see one move briskly on a race to a scant 88 minutes. I believe this was accomplished by shredding this movie’s script at random and assembling what was left into this mess. A mess it is but given the choice between THE NOTEBOOK on the other screen at the Alamo’s Ritz location and this (for free) it was an easy choice. Good thing this movie is pretty silly and occasionally actually fun. Aside from a slow 10 minute stretch in act 2 there’s at least always something going on. Amongst the bad CG there was actually some good makeup and super puppet work going on. I also liked some occasional practical gore and the totally out-of-place cursing. Not nearly as bad as the ‘nets would have you believe but surely not good enough for rewatches.
