Long before I knew about the book’s author’s views on things, I fell in love with the book and the characters and the story.  This wasn’t an easy story to adapt as there’s a lot that goes on in heads and even through conversations on the net which wouldn’t work well to see text going back and forth on screen.

I will say as far as book to screen adaptations go, this one isn’t bad at all.  The only problem is we as an audience get a bit more in-depth look at what’s really going on long before the lead character does which negates much of the impact those scenes did in the book.  On the other hand it makes it feel even more tragic as we can see it from the view of the adults shoving Ender through all of this.  Overall though the results are a bit mixed.  I appreciate what they were able to do with this but I would have loved a few more touches here and there from the book.

This is definitely a much better outing for Gavin Hood than his last film I saw which was the Wolverine Origins film.  The cast in this was well chosen and they play their roles through beautifully.
