Despite Khan’s defeat, Admiral Kirk’s victory is a hollow one with McCoy seemingly going insane and his friend Spock dead. Or is he?  Touching on science being used as a weapon and some neat new ship designs, Star Trek III is a bit more uneven than Star Trek II.  It takes itself a little less seriously at times, but it feels more in line with the series than even II did.  Sure there’s a few issues with it here and there, but there’s this fun and excitement to it that overcomes a lot of that.  There is also an over=whelming sadness to it which if you haven’t seen it I won’t spoil.  Horner’s score isn’t quite as on point as the previous film but still works really well.  Nimoy actually directed this one, so this counts doubly for my little tribute to one of the cast members I grew up watching. While I think they would have benefited keeping the Romulans instead of the Klingons in this one, I do like Christopher Lloyd as the Klingon commander and the new Bird of Prey is a fantastic ship even if they don’t get the scale quite right compared to the Enterprise.
