Viewing Notes

Ash Williams is accidentally transported to 1300 A.D., where he must battle an army of the dead and retrieve the Necronomicon so he can return home. I’ve got the Boomstick Edition of this which includes both the Theatrical and Director’s cut. I opted for the theatrical because I like the S-Mart ending better than the bleak director’s cut. After the campy, hammy, one-liner driven slapstick fest of a follow up to Evil Dead II, the S-Mart ending just fits better anyway. While I love this film mainly for its one liners and fun, this is less a horror film and more an action comedy featuring the undead. Sure there are a lot of elements from the first two films here, but it feels very watered down here which is a shame. I still enjoy the hell out of it, but Evil Dead II is still my favorite in the series.
