Viewing Notes

Nine vacationing twenty-somethings are hunted by an axe-wielding local legend. So much wasted potential, especially after watching Evil Dead II. The kills in this are way too clean, despite how physical and close he is to his victims, the giant Axeman must be a neat freak because he never has anything on his except maybe his hat.  The characters are kind of awful and the first few of them to go you’re grateful that particular jerk won’t be seen again. It’s that bad.  They also chose to overlay the film in this kind of sepia tone that makes me think of all the bland video games that were just covered in brown when the 360 and PS3 came out.  Then there’s the sound issue. If even something as low budget as Evil Dead II can make sure their film sounds good, then a film made in 2013 can make sure we can hear the important dialogue. The score also sounds like terrible trailer music whenever he goes in for a kill.  There’s potential for a much better film here, instead we get something that’s just kind of average and very formulaic.
