Viewing Notes

Ten years after the events of the Battle of Naboo, the galaxy has undergone significant changes. Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi are assigned to protect Padmé from political separatists. As relationships form and powerful forces collide, these heroes face choices that will impact the destiny of the Republic. Where the first episode has aging and disconnect issues, this one picks up the pace a little bit and feels much more like the Star Wars films I grew up watching, but it still has issues. There is so much green screen and cg in the film that almost every scene has this glossed over look to it which is very different from the lived in look we got from the original films. It doesn’t help getting into the film. The acting is better in the film, but I think the script doesn’t suffer as much as the first film either. There’s a lot of set-up here for the Clone Wars, of which we’ll only see the tail end of in the next film and through the animated series. While it’s an improvement, much of the film feels kind of hollow. John William’s score improves a lot of it.
